Mariah Carey Eats Only These Two Foods to Lose Weight!?

Mariah Carey Eats Only These Two Foods to Lose Weight!?

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering how the undeniably gorgeous Mariah Carey maintains her perfect figure, today is your lucky day. The singer recently opened up about how she gets svelte on E! News, shocking us all with her painfully specific diet. How specific, you ask? Only. Two. Foods.

"It's really hard. My diet, you would hate it," Carey told E! News recently while explaining how she got fit for her new E! doc-series, 'Mariah's World.' "All you eat is Norwegian salmon and capers every day. That's it."
Smoked salmon and capers are good and all but the only thing you ever eat? Capers are only two calories per tablespoon and while smoked salmon does come in at a healthy 33 calories an ounce and is rife with healthy omega-3 fatty acids and lean protein there are still a lot of important vitamins, minerals, and food groups missing to stay healthy.
We hope that Mimi's just exaggerating, but we aren't holding our collective breath: “I’m actually serious," she laughs during the video interview, adding, "I try to stick with the proteins. It's the worst. But it works!”
While the pop star may rely on such a diet, we’re going to go ahead and stick with some of our own, healthier methods to get fit and lose weight. After all, can one really sustain themselves on smoked salmon alone, forever?

People who died in 2016: Muhammad Ali, Antonin Scalia and other deaths that made headlines

From politicians to celebrities and more, the world lost many wonderful -- and controversial -- people in 2016.

The year started off with the deaths of legendary musician David Bowie and beloved actor Alan Rickman, of "Harry Potter" and "Die Hard" fame.
Supreme Court Antonin Scalia left a sudden vacancy on the highest court in the land when he unexpectedly died in his sleep at a ranch in Texas in February. Former first lady Nancy Reagan passed away a few weeks later of congestive heart failure at the age of 94.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Harper Lee, who wrote the classic "To Kill a Mockingbird," and Pat Conroy, who penned "The Great Santini" and "Prince of Tides," passed away in the early months of 2016 too.

Cuban dictator Fidel Castro's death sparked wildly different reactions in different parts of the world in December.
The loss of Muhammad Ali in June stunned millions around the world. Sports fans also grieved the loss of record-setting basketball coach Pat Summit who passed away in June and golfing legend Arnold Palmer who passed on in September.
Journalists mourned the passing of Morley Safer of "60 Minutes" fame in May and PBS NewsHour's Gwen Ifill in November.
But not every person whose death made headlines was a household name before they passed -- especially those who were taken unexpectedly in violent acts.
Dozens of souls were lost on June 12 when Omar Mateen gunned down more than 100 victims at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, taking 49 lives and wounding 53 others. The massacre was the single deadliest terror attack on American soil since September 11.

TMZ reports credits The second leg of Kanye West's Saint Pablo Tour has not just been put on hold

The second leg of Kanye West's Saint Pablo Tour has not just been put on hold ... it's been outright cancelled ... TMZ has learned.
As we reported, Kanye's psych hospitalization put the 2017 portion of the tour on ice, with no restart date set. At the time Kanye was at UCLA Medical Center, sources connected with the rapper insisted the tour would go on, even though belatedly.
Now we've learned Kanye's people contacted concert promoter Live Nation and informed them the second leg -- which for the most part was European -- was officially cancelled. Among the planned stops -- Paris, U.K. and Germany.
We're told cancelling did not pose real problems, because no dates were set and no tickets were sold.
TMZ broke the story ... Kanye has an insurance policy that reimburses him for any lost profits or expenses associated with cancellations that result from a medical condition.

Rite Aid to sell 865 stores to Fred's

(Reuters) - Rite Aid Corp said it would sell 865 stores to Fred's Inc for $950 million to satisfy antitrust concerns over its proposed takeover by Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc.
Fred's shares jumped 73 pct to $19.34 in morning trading on Tuesday, while Rite Aid shares were up 5.6 pct at $8.63.
Rite Aid and Walgreens were widely expected to divest stores in states where the combined company would have a particularly strong position.
Walgreens has 13,200 stores, nearly 60 percent of which are in the United States, while Rite Aid has 4,570 stores in the United States.

Walgreens said in October 2015 it would buy smaller peer Rite Aid for $9.4 billion to widen its U.S. footprint.
Fred's will continue to operate the acquired stores under the Rite Aid banner during the transition period, the companies said on Tuesday.
Walgreens said it continues to expect the acquisition to realize savings of over $1 billion within three to four years after the closing of the deal, which is expected in early 2017.
Fred's said BofA Merrill Lynch and Regions Bank will provide financing for store acquisitions.

'There was blood everywhere': Witnesses describe horrific Orlando attacks

'There was blood everywhere': Witnesses describe horrific Orlando attacks

Witnesses described running for their lives and seeing unimaginable carnage at Pulse in Orlando, a gay nightclub where 50 people were shot dead in an ISIS-claimed attack early Sunday.
The shooting was the deadliest in US history. The suspected gunman, 29-year-old Omar Saddiqui Mateen, reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS (also known as the Islamic State, ISIL, or Daesh) in a 911 call.
Mateen started shooting at about 2 a.m., near last call for the club, which was hosting its popular Latin Night. Police shot and killed Mateen about three hours later.

Those inside the club when the shooting happened told various news outlets about what they saw. Here are some of their stories:
  • Ray Rivera, a 42-year-old DJ at the club, told The New York Times that he didn't realize at first that the noise he heard was shooting. He lowered the music in the club to figure out what was happening. "I thought it was firecrackers," he said. "I saw bodies on the floor, people on the floor everywhere. It was chaos, everybody trying to get out."
  • Joel Figueroa, 19, described hearing the first shots ring out. "Bam, bam, bam. The only thing I could think of was to duck," he told the Times. His friend, Stanley, was there with him. "There was Stanley, on the floor," he recounted. Stanley was shot three times, Figueroa said. His present condition is unknown.
  • José Flores, 25, was near the scene after the massacre had ended. "It looks like a war zone might look. That's why I think it's so important to have a relationship with God — those people didn't know they were having their last drink, what was getting ready to happen."
  • Christopher Hansen told the Associated Press that he escaped the club after the shooting started. "When I got across the street there was blood everywhere," he said. "I was helping somebody because he was laying down and I wasn't sure if he was dead or alive. I took my bandanna off, I shoved it in this hole, the bullet hole that was in his back." He described what he was thinking when the shooting started: "I was thinking, 'Are you kidding me?' So I just dropped down. I just said, 'Please, please, please, I want to make it out.' And when I did, I saw people shot. I saw blood. You hope and pray you don't get shot."
It's unclear what Mateen's connection with ISIS was, but he was on an FBI list of suspected ISIS sympathizers, and federal authorities had looked into him in 2013 and 2014.
Mateen's father told NBC News that his son was angered when he saw two men kissing in Miami a couple of months ago.
"This has nothing to do with religion," he said.

'THE GREATEST' IS GONE

Ali with Elijah Muhammad -- who gave him his new name.

The man, the myth, the legend ... the name.
It's common knowledge that Cassius Clay chose to change his name to Muhammad Ali in the 1960s following his conversion to Islam -- but not so many are aware of his original rebranding plans.
"The legend is known that when a young Kentucky-born Cassius Clay joined the Nation of Islam his name was immediately changed to the now iconic Muhammad Ali," Miller says. "But few know that his first name change was to Cassius X.
"It was February 26, 1964 -- the morning after he knocked out Sonny Liston. But nearly two weeks later, on March 6, he announced that religious and political leader Elijah Muhammad (who led the Nation of Islam from 1934 until his death in 1975) had given him the new name of Muhammad Ali."
Miller says the name may have originally been intended for Malcolm X, who split with Nation of Islam soon after Ali joined and was assassinated the following year.
It's well documented that on April 28, 1967, Ali refused to be inducted into the U.S. Army and was immediately stripped of his heavyweight title.
Ali, a Muslim, cited religious reasons for his decision to forgo military service.
Early on Ali was closely involved with the often militant pro-African American goals of Nation of Islam, but later in life switched to a more mystical Muslim sect.
"Ali announced that he is a Sufi around 2005, saying that of all of the sects of Islam, he feels the closest connection to Sufism," says Miller, whose book "Approaching Ali" was released in late 2015.
"Sufism is arguably the most peaceful sect of any major or minor religion. Sufis believe that to purposely harm any person is to harm all of humanity, to harm each of us and to damage the world.
"It is the perfect fit for Ali, who had been living in the ways that Sufis do for decades before he'd heard of the religion.
"Few people have heard about the profound ways Ali's faith has evolved over the years. He has been a world soul for many decades; he has grown from separatist to universalist."

The scene is Atlanta, October 26, 1970.
Ali's first comeback fight followed his enforced exile of three years and seven months -- after refusing to be inducted into the armed forces -- against No. 1 heavyweight contender Jerry Quarry.
Then 28, he would go on to make a successful return to the ring, winning by TKO in the third round -- but the fight nearly didn't happen.
"Ali had only six weeks to prepare for this contest," Miller says. "In training, his boyhood friend and former heavyweight champion Jimmy Ellis badly fractured one of Ali's ribs.
"Even with this injury, Ali did not reschedule the fight, being entirely uncertain that if he did, he would ever get the chance to fight again."

"The art of the gesture is quite important to him," Miller says of Ali, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1984 at the age of 42. "He communicates with his hands and fingers, his facial features, his eyes.
"He surprises visitors by making a sound with his thumb and index finger that's not unlike a cricket in your ear. He blows on the top of heads, tickles the inside of palms when he shakes hands, teasing almost everyone who visits him.
"Though he can walk, Ali is often seen sitting in a wheelchair or positioned in an easy chair. He is no longer the world's most vocal and irrepressibly animated person."
Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, his hands can't hit what his eyes can't see."
Famous for his pre-fight proto rap rhymes, Ali had some other dazzling tricks.
"Until recently, throughout his years with Parkinson's disease, Ali surprised visitors by performing prestidigitations (sleight of hand tricks)," Miller says.
"He made a red silk scarf disappear from his hand, he bit coins in half and made them whole again, and he often performed an old parlor trick -- by putting his feet together and rising up on the toes of one foot while keeping his other foot flexed, he could appear to float above the ground."

One of the most enduring memories of Ali's magic, Miller says, took place on the first day they met in June 1975.
"I'd just finished sparring a round with him, nearly got knocked out by only one punch, and Ali helped me out of the ring," Miller recalls.
"Escorting me to a seat among the small crowd, where I sat, looking freshly electrocuted, he leaned over and whispered, 'You're fast. And you sure can hit, to be so little.' He might as well have said he was adopting me.

Muhammad Ali: 'Will they remember me?' 03:27
"Then, while his longtime sparring partner Eddie 'Bossman' Jones was being introduced, Ali climbed back into the ring, where he boxed a relaxed, beautiful and dazzling round, bouncing dozens of jabs, straight right leads, easy hooks and effortless uppercuts off of Jones' face and headgear.
"After the bell rang at the end of the round, and a corner man had removed his gloves, Ali stepped back to the center of his ring. 'The man without imagination has no wings,' he shouted, pointing down at the audience with his left fist. 'He cannot fly.'
"Still holding his left fist at eye level, the one he'd used to tattoo the 'Bossman' for the past three minutes, he rolled it over, bent his arm at the elbow, and slowly pulled it in close to his chest.
"Opening his hand, a bird I now know to have been a Carolina wren flew with a fluttering of wings from Ali's palm and up to the ceiling.
"The crowd oohed and aahed. I can't imagine anyone who was there will ever forget the experience."
 Ali's nickname was "The Greatest."

Former American footballer Will Smith shot dead in New Orleans

news

Former NFL athlete Will Smith was killed and his wife injured by a gunman who shot the retired football player several times after ramming into his car in New Orleans, police and a local media report said on Sunday.
Suspected shooter Cardell Hayes, 30, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, the New Orleans Police Department said in a Tweet.

Smith, 34, a retired defensive end with the National Football League's New Orleans Saints, was traveling in a Mercedes in the city's Lower Garden District shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday when his car was rear-ended by a Hummer.
Smith exchanged words with the driver of the Hummer, who took out a handgun and shot him several times, New Orleans Police Department spokesman Juan Barnes said in a statement.
Smith played American football for the Saints for a decade, including in the team that won the Super Bowl in February 2010. His professional football career ended in 2014.
During the Saturday night incident, a 33-year-old woman who was with Smith was shot in the legs and taken to the hospital, the statement said. The Times-Picayune newspaper identified the woman as Smith's wife, but did not name her.
Police said the shooter stayed on the scene after the incident and that they recovered the weapon used.
Smith's family posted a brief statement on his Facebook page expressing thanks for the outpouring of support and asking for respect for their privacy.
Smith had three children and was married to Racquel Smith, according to the ex-player's official website.

NASA's racing against time to fix $600 million spacecraft

NASA is scrambling to save a $600 million spacecraft that's gone into "emergency mode."

Experiencing what one researcher called a "spacecraft emergency," the Kepler space telescope is now rapidly burning through fuel, and NASA is running out of time to save it.

Engineers first discovered the telescope was in emergency mode Thursday, and believe it actually entered that stage at least a day before.

One of the biggest obstacles engineers now face is Kepler is 75 million miles from Earth. Even at the speed of light, signals take 13 minutes to go between Kepler and NASA's home base.

It's unclear what's exactly wrong with the spacecraft, but it might not be an easy fix. NASA scientists will have to find a way to repair Kepler with whatever the spacecraft already has on it.

Engineers fixed a different major problem in 2013 by using pressure from sunlight to keep Kepler steady.
NASA's poured a huge amount of money into the Kepler project. The spacecraft launched in 2009 and was only supposed to take four years. But severe breakdowns and hard-to-read data have plagued the mission.

The space telescope's mission is to search for planets that could potentially hold life. By the beginning of 2016, Kepler had found 1,000 of those planets.

Janet Jackson announces 'my husband and I are planning our family'; postpones European tour

Janet Jackson has been forced to postpone the dates on her Unbreakable world tour once again. But on Wednesday morning (Apr. 6), the 49-year-old music icon gave a very happy reason for keeping her European fans waiting. "We're in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change. I thought it was important that you be the first to know," Jackson announced in a nearly two-minute video posted on Twitter.
Pausing and taking a deep breath, Jackson, dressed all in white, revealed with a smile, "my husband and I are planning our family. I'm gonna have to delay the tour. Please if you can try and understand that it's important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor's orders." Jackson did not use the word "pregnant" in the clip. She and third husband, Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana, 41, were married in 2012.

Jackson, was due to resume her tour in Birmingham, England, on March 30 after previously postponing a string of 29 U.S. dates to reportedly receive surgery for an undisclosed illness; Jackson denied rumors that she was suffering from cancer. One month ago, Jackson's European dates were suddenly removed from Ticketmaster's site and the dates were canceled.
The singer thanked her dancers, her band, her crew and promoter Live Nation, saying, "I can't wait for us to get started again."

Want a better job? Make better Facebook friends

The strength of your relationships on Facebook could be important when it comes to your ability to find a job, a recent study published in the Journal of Labor Economics suggests, though the relationship is somewhat nuanced.
The study, published in January, looked at whether "strong" or "weak" personal ties on Facebook were the most useful when it comes to finding a job. Researchers used photo tags and walls posts to measure tie strength, or how close the relationships actually were.
So, the better friends you are with someone in real life, the more likely they are to help you out in your job search.
Here's where the data from this Journal of Labor Economics study gets tricky. Researchers noted that a person's Facebook network is not an exact representation of their real life network, and that a large amount of unobservable contact takes place outside of Facebook. However, despite these shortcomings, Facebook interaction is a good predictor of real-world tie strength. And while good friends are powerful, the "weaker" friends can be as well.
"When looking at the collective power of weak ties, we find weak ties matter most," researchers said. "But, when we look individually at all a person's social connections, we find that a single strong tie is more influential than a single weak tie."
How does that work?
The study concluded that there are actually very few strong ties on Facebook, but when they exist, they are "associated with a higher probability of job help."
"Weak ties are important in aggregate because they are numerous," researchers reported, "while single strong ties are scarce but associated with a higher probability of job help."
Researchers suggested there's an easy way to take advantage of this when looking for your next job.
"A person is more likely to work with a weaker tie because weaker ties collectively make up most of a person's social network," researchers said. "But, strengthening an existing tie should increase the probability that you will work with that specific friend."
If you are looking for a better job, it can be helpful to keep an eye on your credit reports as they may end up being part of your evaluation during the hiring process. It's a hotly contested subject, but employers are allowed to check your credit reports before they hire you. You can get started by checking out your free credit report summary every month on Credit.com. And you can get copies of your credit reports for free once a year from each of the major credit reporting agencies.

Paris Jackson dedicates new tattoo to her father Michael: 'He was the king of my heart'

Paris Jackson rang in her 18th birthday with some fresh ink, dedicated to her famous father, Michael Jackson.
Paris, who celebrated the milestone birthday on Sunday, took to Instagram on Tuesday to show off her new tattoo, consisting of the words "Queen of my heart" in her dad's handwriting, inked down the side of her left wrist.

"To everyone else he was the King of Pop. To me, well, he was the king of my heart," Paris captioned the sweet, black-and-white snapshot.
Justin Lewis, the tattoo artist who did the work, also shared a pic of Paris, who was accompanied by her cousin, singer-songwriter Austin Brown.
"Paris Michael Jackson got her tattoo today," Lewis wrote in the caption. "Letters from her father, so sweet."

Paris, who was 11 when her father died of a propofol overdose at age 50 in June 2009, has previously mentioned wanting to get a tattoo to honor her father.
Back in 2012, Paris -- then 14 years old -- wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted, "I kinda want to get August XXIX tatted on my back," in reference to Michael's birthday on Aug. 29, 1958.
