It's that time of year again!
The People Choice Awards honors the big stars that were chosen by the fans! And if you weren't able to watch tonight's big show, well, we feel sorry for you because it was absolutely fantastic. But don't feel too bad. We round up all the night's biggest highlights so you don't feel left out.
Let's get to it...
Best Intro Ever?!: Crossing over from their show, 2 Broke Girls, Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs began the People's Choice Awards in an epic manner. Numerous nominees—including Christina Aguilera, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ian Somerhalder—showed up at the diner, letting viewers know it was time for the show! Once Kaley Cuoco showed up and handed over hosting duties, it was time to get to it.
Best Food: Everyone got burgers and fries! Jealous.
Worst Let Down: Sorry, Ellen DeGeneres, you don't get to go up and accept Justin Timberlake's award with him. We know. It sucks. But at least you got a shout out (along with J.T.'s wife, Jessica Biel. Too cute!).
MORE: People's Choice Awards nominees!

Best Bump: Drew Barrymore flaunted her growing baby bump when presenting the award for Favorite Comedic Movie Actor. And then Ellen called her "fat." Oh, you guys, she was totes kidding. Adam Sandler kept the jokes rolling when he told her, "You do look like you lost weight."
Worst Attempt at Having an Awkward Moment: Zac Efron does not have awkward moments. Even when he tries to have an awkward moment, he doesn't. He just stands there looking amazing.
Best Musical Performance: This was done by none other than your host Beth Behrs, who performed tidbits of "Wrecking Ball," "Before He Cheats" and "Baby Got Back." She even twerked and ended her singing showdown by dropping the mike and walking off stage.
Awkward Alert?: Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder may be broken up in real life, but they didn't let it get too awkward when accepting the award for Best Onscreen Chemistry. Nope, not at all. P.S. Can something actually happen between Malin Akerman and Shemar Moore? That was hot!
PHOTOS: See the arrivals at last year's show
Best Newlywed Kiss: First-time winner Kaley Cuoco gave her new hubby Ryan Sweeting a quick smooch before accepting her award on stage. "This is the second best thing to happen to me all year, the first was marrying you baby," she said.
Go Brit!: Britney Spears, after carefully going up the stairs, won a People's Choice Award for Best Pop Artist, and she was so thankful y'all.
Throwback Thanks: Sarah Michelle Gellar won her first PCA and made sure to thank the peeps from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. People cheered and suddenly it was 2000 again.
Best (or Worst?) Seating Arrangement: Kaley Cuoco was sitting inbetween her hubby Ryan Sweeting and ex-boyfriend/costar Johnny Galecki.

Happy birthday Kate! The Duchess of Cambridge celebrates her 32nd birthday

2013 wrap-up: A year of style with Kate Middleton
Kate Middleton, Britain's Duchess of Cambridge, has had a royally eventful year. Becoming a mom has surely made 31 her favorite age yet, but as the Duchess turns 32 today January 9th, we can't wait to see what is yet to come.

Last year Prince William took Kate, her family, and close friends to see a Cirque de Soleil show to mark her birthday. (And they were celebrating a pregnancy - albeit a difficult one at first - as well!) So how will the Duchess celebrate this year? Kensington Palace has only said that Kate "is spending her birthday privately." It's believed that she plans to ring in 32 quietly at home in London with family.

Knowing the Middleton family -- and that little thing known as a multi-million dollar party planning business -- we're sure they've got something up their sleeves. The family has always celebrated birthdays with gusto, and Kate mentioned in an interview for the business that her favorite party memory was the "white rabbit marshmallow cake" her mother made for her seventh birthday. Both Carole and Pippa were spotted shopping this week in London at some of Kate's favorite stores.

As Prince William recently started his courses at Cambridge University, she'll likely spend the day without him at her side, but they are expected to celebrate together in the evening. We're hoping Wills and Pippa planned a lavish dinner for Kate at the Palace (we're picturing a Downton Abbey dinner party -- but better) and we're sure having close friends and family there is all she'll want.

2014 is already set to be a busy year for the Cambridge family. After a quiet first 10 weeks while William takes classes, the couple will head off to Australia and New Zealand for their first extended Royal Tour. Prince George will accompany his parents on this exciting month-long trip.

We expect more details on the Duchess's birthday will emerge in time, but to celebrate we rounded up Kate's 32 best looks! Click through the gallery above to see -- naturally we included her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding gown, the bespoke polka dotted Jenny Packham dress and many more iconic pieces.

Kate Gosselin's Kids Say They're 'Not Messed Up,' But Think Their Mom Is 'Annoying'

kate gosselin kids messed up
Kate Gosselin's kids insist they are "not messed up," despite what some might think.
Gosselin and her twins Mady and Cara, 13 -- just two of the eight kids in the Gosselin family -- sat down with People magazine to discuss life away from the cameras.
The girls and their six siblings grew up on the small screen. It all started with their smash-hit reality series, "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which first aired on TLC in 2007, then "Kate Plus 8." The show went off the air in 2011, after a total of 150 episodes and a bitter divorce. Jon and Kate's 2009 split played out in the magazines, with cheating allegations making most headlines.
"People expect us to be damaged," Cara told People. Added Mady, "People think we're supposed to be messed up, like, 'Oooooh, the poor Gosselin kids, they're going to be scarred for life, waaaaah.' Here's the big news: we're not messed up."
Even though the girls think their mom is "annoying" (for example, Kate says "'spensive" instead of "expensive"), Kate is proud of who her children have become.
"[T]hey're savvy, and they've learned things about the world and peoples intentions that took me decades to learn," the 38-year-old told the magazine. "They're more aware of their surroundings and can size you up with a glance. They're nobody's fools."
Last month, Jon sang a different tune when he claimed his kids -- including the 13-year-old twins and 9-year-old sextuplets: Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Alexis, Joel and Leah -- have issues because of the reality show.
"[D]evelopmentally, they have problems with their peers; they have problems with talking to other people; they have problems with wants and needs, and manners and morals, and what’s right and what’s wrong, of course," he said during an episode of "Where Are They Now?" for OWN. "I think more so than someone who grows up off TV.”
UPDATE: Jon Gosselin was interviewed for the latest issue of InTouch magazine and he claimed his ex-wife is "exploiting" their children for fame.
“She uses them as her props,” he said. “It’s a problem for her that she can’t afford our old lifestyle anymore. It’s so unfair to them. I work really hard to keep my kids safe and then she just goes and tweets about them all the time. I don’t have a Twitter [account] anymore and even when I did, I never tweeted about my kids. I kept their lives private.”

Utah avalanche was largest in modern history

news

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The avalanche near Salt Lake City last year that carried enough rock, dirt and debris to bury New York's Central Park under 66 feet of rubble was North America's largest such disaster in modern history, according to University of Utah scientists.

The April 2013 rockslide sent 165 million tons of debris into a nearly mile-deep pit where it cracked bedrock and triggered unprecedented earthquakes, the researchers said in a newly published study.

"We don't know of any case until now where landslides have been shown to trigger earthquakes," said Jeff Moore, assistant professor of geology and geophysics.

There were no injuries or deaths as the slide temporarily shut down a copper mine, burying 14 giant haul trucks and leading to a series of layoffs and buyouts at Kennecott Utah Copper Corp.

"It was a creeping movement that had been developing over many months along an old fault line," Moore said Tuesday. Kennecott had been monitoring the area and evacuated workers ahead of the danger, he said.

The disaster didn't involve a volcanic explosion and was actually a pair of related slides about 90 minutes apart, said Moore, who co-authored the study together with Kris Pankow, associate director of the university's seismograph stations.

The peer-reviewed research was published Monday in the Geological Society of America's magazine, GSA Today.

The debris slides falling as fast as 100 mph crashed to earth with such force that they registered as magnitude-5 earthquakes and then triggered 16 smaller quakes where the bedrock cracked, Moore said.

Mother Nature has put on bigger shows, the scientists noted.

The 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington unleashed a landslide 57 times larger than Kennecott's.

Another slide about 8,000 years ago at the mouth of Zion Canyon in southern Utah was five times as large.

Orange Bowl: Clemson takes down Ohio State

Stanton Seckinger took a six-yard pass from Tajh Boyd into the end zone Friday, giving No. 12 Clemson a lead to hold for more than six minutes. Mission: accomplished.
Boyd finished 30-of-39 passing for 371 yards as the Tigers defeated No. 7 Ohio State 40-35 in the Orange Bowl.

Sammy Watkins had a record-setting night with 16 catches for 227 yards, converting Boyd's throws into big gains.
Boyd's pass to Seckinger put the Tigers (11-2) ahead to stay. Watkins caught two touchdown passes, plus became Clemson's career receptions leader and set an Orange Bowl record for yardage.
Martavis Bryant caught two more TD passes for the Tigers, who won their first Orange Bowl in 32 years.
Braxton Miller threw for 234 yards and Carlos Hyde ran for 113 more for Ohio State (12-2), which wasted a nine-point second-half lead. Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer lost for the first time in five career trips to the Bowl Championship Series.
For the second time in three years, Clemson fell apart at the Orange Bowl. Only this time, the Tigers found a way to recover. And thanks to Boyd, Watkins and plenty of others, the end result was Clemson's biggest win in a generation.
Miller was intercepted twice in the final 3:12, dooming the Buckeyes. Boyd threw an interception to give Ohio State the ball back, but Miller was picked again — Stephone Anthony made the play for the Tigers — and Clemson ran out the clock.
The Buckeyes had a 29-20 lead in the third after Hyde picked up 31 yards on 4th-and-inches, then went airborne to break the plane of the goal line on the next play.
Then the mistakes started coming in bunches by Ohio State. A fumbled punt return and an interception led to touchdown grabs by Watkins and Bryant, putting the Tigers up entering the fourth.
Hyde caught a 14-yard scoring pass from Miller with 11:35 left, giving the Buckeyes a one-point lead, but Clemson and Boyd went on one last scoring march to give the Tigers the BCS win they've been seeking for years.
When Clemson played in the Orange Bowl two years ago, the Tigers gave up 21 points in the final 2:29 of the first half, letting a close game get blown wide open on the way to a 70-33 loss to West Virginia.
End-of-half mistakes cost Clemson again.
Boyd's three-yard touchdown pass to Bryant had Ohio State facing a 20-9 deficit, but two scores in a 3½-minute span gave the Buckeyes a 22-20 halftime lead. Clemson left Jeff Heuerman wide open down the middle for a 57-yard touchdown pass from Miller, making it a one-score game. And on a drive aided by a 15-yard penalty against Clemson's Darius Robinson, Miller ran in from 3 yards with 12 seconds left to give the Buckeyes their first lead.
And Ohio State had to feel fortunate.
Boyd went 48 yards untouched — his longest career run — for a touchdown that opened the scoring. The Buckeyes tied it on the ensuing drive, catching a break when a third-down sack by Vic Beasley that would have forced a punt was rendered moot by his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Heuerman pulled off a fake punt later in the drive, and Miller eventually rumbled 33 yards to tie the game.
Boyd found Watkins for a 34-yard score to put Clemson back on top. Ohio State answered with a safety, sacking Boyd one play after Armani Reeves brilliantly downed a punt at the 1, putting the ball on the turf with his left hand as his right hand was touching the orange paint in the Clemson end zone.
