NEW YORK (AP) — Police confirm that a Metro-North passenger train has derailed in the Bronx.
A woman at the scene says numerous emergency vehicles have responded.
More from HuffPost:
Police sources told NBC and the New York Daily News that at least four people died after the commuter train headed towards Grand Central derailed around 7:20 AM.
The FDNY confirmed the 4 deaths in a press conference. They also said that at least 67 people were injured, 11 seriously. Of the 4 people killed, 3 were thrown from the train after it derailed.
According to News 12, several passengers were taken away on stretchers. The FDNY said that all of the injured people were in stable condition.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo later arrived on the scene and thanked first responders for their quick action. The NYPD estimated that about 100 people were on the train, which was scheduled to arrive at Grand Central Station at 7:43 AM.
According to the MTA, 5 of the 7 cars on the train derailed early Sunday morning. Though early witnesses to the scene said that some of the cars were submerged in water, police later said that wasn't true.
As the AP reported, the train derailed near the Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx.
WABC7 said that the area where the train accident occurred is known to be a dangerous curve. Another train derailed at the same spot in July.
Authorities said it was unclear what caused the derailment, but a passenger on the train told WABC7 that the train appeared to be going faster than usual.
Metro-North suspended some service following the derailment.

Paul Walker Dead: 'Fast And The Furious' Actor Dies In Car Crash

Paul Walker
Actor Paul Walker died in a car crash in Santa Clarita, Calif., on Saturday (Nov. 30), his rep has confirmed. He was 40 years old.
Walker's team released this statement on his Facebook and Twitter pages:
Walker was best known for his roles in the "Fast And The Furious" movies.
TMZ reports that Walker was in a Porsche Carrera GT when the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle. It then slammed into either a post or a tree and then burst into flames and exploded.
It is not yet known what caused the driver to lose control, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said that the crash happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 28300 clock of Rye Canyon Loop.
Walker's other credits include “Varsity Blues,” "Into the Blue," “Flags of Our Fathers” and “Takers.” He is survived by his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.
UPDATE (Dec. 1, 8:45 a.m. EST): Although it's unclear what caused the accident, authorities have said speed appears to have played a major factor.
UPDATE (Dec. 1, 11:00 a.m. EST): The driver in the fatal crash that killed Paul Walker has reportedly been identified as 38-year-old Roger Rodas. According to local reports, Rodas was the CEO of Always Evolving, an automotive company, and the pair was traveling in his 2005 Porsche Carrera GT when the car lost control and struck a tree. Walker, a car aficionado, was allegedly one of Always Evolving’s owners, and Rodas himself was a former race car driver.
According to TMZ, Walker and Rodas' bodies were burned so badly in the crash that they're currently unidentifiable and their autopsies will be delayed until later this week. A rep for the L.A. County Coroner tells TMZ that the coroner is waiting on both sets of dental records before proceeding.
